Days before Samsung unveils its Neon project at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, details of the forthcoming "artificial human" were revealed. However, this is apparently not a Bixby reboot.

Samsung has been teasing Neon through social media, but little has been known about what to expect from this AI project.

The latest word is that Neon appears to be a digital avatar creation tool; a tweet from Pranav Mistry, the head of Neon, says that the engine behind Neon, called CORE R3, will create "new expressions, new movements, new dialogue (even in Hindi) can be created autonomously."

Redditors also unearthed several videos on Neon's site (now deleted), and videos posted on YouTube indicate that Neon can generate lifelike avatars based on video recordings of real people.

In December, Samsung released several other teasers about NEON but, not surprisingly, revealed few details.

Samsung is careful not to describe it as a voice assistant or artificial intelligence. Instead, the company uses terms like "artificial human" and "artificial intelligence being" to market the project.

LetsGoDigital, a Dutch-language site known for highlighting technology patents, published the USPTO's Samsung trademark application. The following is Neon's description.

Entertainment services, i.e., model making services for the production of movies, videos, and movie trailers; production of special effects, including computer generated images and computer generated graphics; production of augmented reality videos; creation of computer generated characters, film, television, Design and development of computer modeling versions of humans using computer animation for use in Internet and other applications; design and development of software for virtual characters; custom computer generated images for entertainment, animation, simulations, and models.

This is not a lot of detail, but it is something; if you visit Neon's website, you will see a countdown that ends at midnight on January 7. This is the opening day of CES in Las Vegas, and it is no coincidence that Samsung will be announcing a number of products in the mobile and entertainment categories.
