Samsung announces Galaxy S10Lite and Note10Lite

Long rumored and little-kept secret, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is no longer a secret. Samsung has officially announced a lower-priced version of its famous phablet, along with a Lite version of the Galaxy S10.

Interestingly, both the Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400x1080 and hole punched for the selfie camera. They also each have three shooters on the back, although the optics and sensors are different.

The primary camera on the Galaxy S10 Lite is 48 megapixels with an aperture of ƒ/2.0, while the Note 10 Lite's main lens is 12 megapixels with a larger aperture of ƒ/1.7. The Note 10 Lite also has a 12-MP telephoto lens, but the S10 Lite has a 5-MP camera designed for macro photography.

Both devices appear to have the same 123-degree ultrawide stack supported by a 12MP sensor and ƒ/2.2 aperture, and the same 32MP, ƒ/2.2 front-facing shooter.

The chipsets driving both Lite devices are also unique: the S10 Lite uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 system-on-chip, while the Note 10 Lite uses Samsung's older 10-nanometer Exynos 9810 CPU to cut costs. The Exynos 9810 was used in the 2018 Galaxy S9 and Note 9. Both have 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and a high-capacity 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

Samsung states that the S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite bring valuable features at an "affordable price point," but the press release announcing the phones does not even indicate their price or release date.

What we do know is that both of Samsung's new low-cost flagships will be on display at CES 2020, as will ours. Stay tuned for hands-on impressions next week. Samsung's press conference is scheduled for Monday, January 6 at 6:30 PM PT.
