iPhone SE2 can be launched in two versions (report)

If previous rumors are to be believed, the iPhone SE 2 will likely be the first large phone Apple will release in 2020. However, new rumors suggest that Apple will offer two options to potential customers.

Taiwanese tech news site DigiTimes (via MacRumors) reports that the SE 2 will be available in two versions: a 4.7-inch LCD display version to be released in Q1 2020 and a 5.5-inch or 6.1-inch display version to be released later this year or possibly in early 2021 ( This is also claimed to be an LCD display). This is allegedly based on rumors within the Taiwanese supply chain that supplies parts to Apple.

This rumor can be understood through other budget premium smartphones on the market. Until the expected Pixel 4a arrives, the Google Pixel 3a, which is likely to be the iPhone SE 2's main rival, comes in 5.6-inch and 6-inch versions; with a 6.1-inch display, Apple could be slightly larger than the Pixel 3a XL Id.

Meanwhile, the 5.5-inch version would mean that the SE 2 would be one of the smallest premium smartphones available, a potential selling point for those who have been put off by the plethora of larger devices released in the past few years.

Both the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR have 6.1-inch displays, making it perhaps more likely that Apple will release another phone of this size.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this is all part of the ambitious plans Apple allegedly has for 2020. This 2020 rollout could include six new iPhones, two of which will be this SE 2 model and the other four will be mainline iPhone 12 versions. All of these new iPhones will have 5.4" to 6.7" OLED displays.

The iPhone SE 2, also known as the iPhone 9 according to some sources, will be based on the iPhone 8 and retain its general shape, including the Touch ID home button. For more information, see our iPhone SE 2 rumor hub page.
