Samsung's Galaxy 829 Galaxy Book Flex Alpha could be the value of laptops this year

This could be one of the best laptops of the year. Samsung has announced the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha (Alpha), which features a QLED display and promises 17.5 hours of battery life for the very affordable price of just $829.

This affordable 2-in-1 features a sleek and attractive aluminum design with diamond-cut edges that are only 0.5 inches thick. The notebook's 13.3-inch, 1080p QLED display features Samsung's signature QLED technology, which uses quantum dots to deliver rich, OLED-quality colors at an affordable price point.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy Book Flex α is powered by a 10th generation Intel Core CPU, but Samsung has yet to say which model (at this price, we'd expect Core i3). The real killer feature, however, is the 54Wh battery, which Samsung says can be used for 17.5 hours on a single charge because it supports fast charging. [The laptop has up to 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of NVMe SSD storage, Wi-Fi 6 support, and a fingerprint reader. Ports include a USB-C port, two USB 3.0 connections, an HDMI port, a microSD slot, and a headphone jack; the Flex α also supports Samsung's Active Pen (sold separately), which can be used to take notes and sketch.

The Galaxy Book Flex α will be available in the first half of 2020, and given its specs at this price point, it could give competitors like the Dell XPS 13 and HP Envy 13t a serious run for their money. We'll be on hand at CES 2020, so stay tuned for our impressions of the Flex alpha and the hottest upcoming notebooks of the year.
