Release date of "Confirmed" leak of Google Pixel5a

Last week, rumors circulated that Google's new phone would arrive in June, with all signs pointing to the launch of the Pixel 5a. That date seems more certain than ever now that a prominent phone leaker has "confirmed" a June 11 launch.

The first leak of a June 11 Google phone launch came from John Prosser, who is fairly reliable when it comes to leaks involving Google phones. Prosser was widely believed that he was talking about the Pixel 5a, as Google's lineup of budget phones was due to be updated, but he did not mention a specific model name.

Now Prosser is back on Twitter, tweeting that his sources have confirmed a June 11 release date. And this time, the Pixel 5a is specifically mentioned by name.

Since this rumor is still coming from one source, that date could of course be shifted. Nevertheless, the possibility of a June release date for the Pixel 5a does provide some clarity on Google's plans for the phone this year. We already expect the Pixel 6 to debut in the fall, and rumors point to the possibility that other phones like the Pixel Fold and possibly the Pixel 5 Pro will also appear this year. (However, the Pixel 5a rumors so far have not revealed much about this budget phone. We have seen leaked renders of the device that suggest a design reminiscent of current Pixel devices; the Pixel 5a is expected to feature a 6.2-inch screen and dual rear cameras like the Pixel 4a 5G.

Other than these details, there is no word on any special features the Pixel 5a might add. However, as the rumored June 11 date approaches, expect Google's plans for a more affordable smartphone to become clearer.
