Russian Dolls Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Trailer and More

It has been a long time since Russian Doll Season 2 was released. It seems like a lifetime ago that Natasha Lyonne was living the same day over and over again in a never-ending time loop. Netflix renewed this dark comedy/drama a few months after it premiered in February 2019, and all you could hear were crickets chirping.

But finally, the news came through! And it's just the best: "Schitt's Creek" star Annie Murphy is joining the cast. Season 2 of "Russian Doll" will feature Alexis.

Russian Doll tells the story of game developer Nadia, who repeatedly relives her 36th birthday party. When Nadia dies, the game restarts from the same point in the event. As Nadia investigates what is happening to her, she learns that a man named Alan (Charlie Barnett) is also experiencing a time loop. The two team up to explore how they are connected and how they can help each other break free.

Here's what we know so far about Russian Doll Season 2.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Russian Doll Season 2. However, according to Deadline, the show is in production.

In retrospect, Season 1 began filming in February 2018 and premiered a year later. Season 2 could follow a similar timeline, but a bit later due to the difficulties of filming during an ongoing pandemic. The premiere of "Russian Doll" Season 2 is estimated to be in the spring of 2022.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but it is speculated that lead actress Natasha Lyonne (also co-creator) will return for "Russian Doll" Season 2 as coder Nadia Vrbokov.

She will be joined by Emmy Award winner Annie Murphy, who played Alexis Rose on "Schitt's Creek." Murphy also appears in AMC's series "Kevin Can F*ck Himself," which will premiere this summer.

Details of Murphy's character are being withheld.

Along with Lyonne, Charlie Barnett may reprise his role as Alan Zaveri.

Other season 1 cast members who may recur include Greta Lee as Nadia's friend Maxine and Yul Vazquez as Nadia's ex-boyfriend, John Reyes.

No details about Russian Doll's season 2 storyline have been announced, suggested, or discussed by co-creators Natasha Lyonne, Lesley Headland, or Amy Poehler.

However, Headland previously told Thrillist that the show was planned as a three-season story. However, Lyon added that since season one will stand alone, the other seasons could go in different directions." Certainly, there are additional things we would like to explore, if it makes sense to do so," she explained.

"Some of my ideas are pretty far out of this world, exactly.

If "Russian Doll" Season 2 does not continue to follow the Nadia and Alan thread, it may pick up the thread of an entirely new character trapped in a time loop--perhaps one played by Murphy.
