Ginny and Georgia Season 2 Release Date, the cast and Taylor Swift controversy

Ginny and Georgia Season 2 Release Date, the cast and Taylor Swift controversy

Season 2 of "Ginny and Georgia" looks to be a sure thing, despite controversy over the inclusion of a "lame, deeply sexist joke" by Taylor Swift. Ginny and Georgia star Antonia Gentry thanked fans for their "love and support." Details are as follows.

Netflix has not officially decided to air "Ginny and Georgia" Season 2, but renewing the series seems like an obvious decision. The drama, which has been compared to "Gilmore Girls," debuted on February 26 and held the top spot on Netflix's U.S. Top 10 list for the next several days.

The series follows Georgia (Brian Howie), a 30-year-old single mother of 15-year-old Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and 9-year-old Austin (Diesel La Traca). After the suspicious death of Georgia's ex-husband, they move to a rural New England town to start over.

Ginny, whose father is black, wants nothing more than to put down roots and find a place to belong. When she becomes friends with her neighbor Max (Sarah Weisglass) and starts dating school favorite Hunter Chen (Mason Temple), her wish seems to have come true. However, things get complicated when Ginny develops feelings for Max's twin brother Marcus (Felix Ballard).

Georgia sets her sights on the town's handsome mayor, Paul Randolph (Scott Porter). However, secrets from her past are uncovered and the new life she is trying to build for her family is about to be destroyed. Season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger, and while Ginny hit rock bottom, Georgia experienced tremendous elation.

Here's what we know so far about Ginny and Georgia Season 2.

Netflix has not confirmed production of "Ginny and Georgia" Season 2, much less set a release date.

Even if "Ginny and Georgia" Season 2 gets the go-ahead, its premiere may be some time away. Filming for Season 1 lasted four months and did not air for more than a year after it ended.

Given the production delays caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the release date for "Genie and Georgia" Season 2 is likely to be fall or winter 2022 at the earliest.

There is at least one person who is not a fan of "Ginny and Georgia" and that is someone very famous.

Taylor Swift bashed the show and Netflix for jokes about her. In one scene, Ginny gets angry at her mother for questioning her about her love life." Why do you care. You go through guys faster than Taylor Swift," she tells Georgia.

Swift's fans criticized the line on social media as misogynistic, and the megastar singer herself responded on Twitter. In her post, she specifically blasted Netflix, which streamed her documentary "Miss Americana" in early 2020. Swift also noted that March is Women's History Month.

Neither Netflix nor the show's creators have commented on the controversy.

After Swift's message, "Let's respect Taylor Swift" began trending on Twitter, with some comments beginning to harass the show's cast, including 23-year-old Antonia Gentry (who plays Ginny). One follower wrote under Gentry's post, "I love Taylor, but please stop harassing Antonia. She didn't write that line. She doesn't deserve this."

Gentry recently posted a message on his Instagram, although he did not directly address Swift's saga.

"Thank you for all your love and support for me and our show Ginny and Georgia over the last week. I would have never imagined this as a young girl--that is, having an influential voice," Gentry wrote.

Nothing official has been announced yet, but if "Ginny and Georgia" Season 2 gets the go-ahead, the two title characters are expected to return. Brian Howey as Georgia Miller and Antonia Gentry as Ginny Miller.

Nikki Rumer is likely to return as Teen Georgia in flashbacks.

As for the rest of "Ginny and Georgia" Season 2, you can probably count on:
