Thor: Cast of Love and Thunder, release date, set photos, plot and everything else we know

[Thor: Love and Thunder" is currently in production! Yes, as expected, the Norse god of thunder, Thor, will return to the screen for his fourth solo film. This time, however, the mantle will not be taken up by Chris Hemsworth, but by a familiar face from the franchise.

The upcoming film is part of Marvel's Phase 4, following the events of Thor: Ragnarok. So here is everything we know about "Thor: Love and Thunder".

Well, fans, this is the hardest pill to swallow right now. Thor: Love and Thunder has been pushed back from its original November 5, 2021 release (announced at SDCC in 2019) to February 11, 2022.

The latest "Thor: Love and Thunder" set photos and leaked footage reveal a plot! It appears that Jane Foster (Portman) may gain Thor's powers when she visits a place dedicated as a monument to both Odin and Mjolnir, the broken hammer of Thor. This leads some to believe that Foster may gain his powers through interaction with the broken weapon, which is a longstanding fan theory.

From the post-leadership wardrobe, it appears that someone is getting a radical new look. Thor, seen in this set, is dressed in less regal but more fun attire. And then there is Star-Lord himself.

There were also photos that seem to confirm the rumor that Melissa McCarthy will be in the film. She appears to be playing Hera in some form, and Matt Damon has also been spotted on set, making it likely that there will be a mini-recollection scene at the beginning of the film (as in the case of Thor: Ragnarok.

As usual, the original Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, returns to lead the cast. Likewise, Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson return as Jane Foster and Valkyrie, respectively.

Tessa Thompson revealed to ET that not only will Christian Bale be in the film, but he will play the villain from Thor: Gore the God Butcher, the villain from Thor: Love and Thunder. Vin Diesel has also stated that he will also appear in Guardians of the Galaxy.

As mentioned above, Chris Pratt will play Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord. And director Taika Waititi will not only be back behind the camera, but will also voice the character Korg, who will populate his scenes.

Then we also need Jeff Goldblum to return as the Grandmaster. He too has already begun to hint at the possibility.

Yes, rumors of Natalie Portman's departure from the Marvel films have been exaggerated; MCU head Kevin Feige revealed that the chance to work with esteemed director Taika Waititi was crucial in getting Natalie Portman back for the film.

Yes, as revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Jane Foster will be the new Thor, at least for this film. This has happened twice in the comics, in 1978 and 2014, when she was deemed fit to carry Mjolnir after Thor was no longer able to carry the mighty hammer.

We also know that Varikly, who inherited the title of King of Asgard in The Avengers: Endgame, is looking for the Queen. Yes, that's right, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, is canonically queer, just like her comic book character.

Who will that queen be? There are a great many fans online who would like to see Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, take that title, but I have no insight to share here.
