Thor: Love and Lightning Set Photos Reveal How Jane Foster Gets Her Powers

The latest set photos from "Thor: Love and Thunder" have been leaked, revealing how Natalie Portman works her arms. These snapshots and the leaked video seem to confirm major theories about the MCU film and how Jane Foster will become the Mighty Thor.

Portman was last seen as Jane Foster in 2013's Thor: The Dark World. The character did not appear in 2017's "Thor: Ragnarok" and made a cameo (in older footage) in "Avengers: Endgame." However, Portman returned in "Thor 4," and her role was found to be greatly enhanced at SDCC.

In one video leaked from Portman's Twitter fan account, the actress films a scene on an Australian set. She is suspended by a crane and convulsing. Notably, this is the same set as the Odin monument in New Asgard, revealed in leaked photos. This shrine contains a fragment of Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, which was destroyed by Hera.

Together, the photos and video look like the moment Jane Foster transforms into the goddess of thunder. Director Taiki Waititi has already admitted that "Thor 4" is based on the comic book "Mighty Thor" arc in which Jane battles breast cancer and gains Thor's powers.

Jane is not the first person besides Thor to get Mjolnir; Captain America (Chris Evans) used the hammer in the climax against Thanos in "Endgame." However, Steve put it back in its proper place in the timeline, and Thor continued to wield Stormbreaker's axe.

The movie will likely tweak the Mighty Thor storyline a bit, but further details are being kept under wraps. We do know that Tessa Thompson will return as Valkyrie and Jaimie Alexander will play Lady Sif. Christian Bale joins the cast as the slaughter god Gor, and the Guardians of the Galaxy will enter the battle of Asgard in some capacity.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
