Google Stadia now works on Xbox Series — What you Need to Know

The Xbox Series X now supports Google Stadia thanks to a Chromium version of Microsoft's Edge browser.

Thanks to the Alpha Skip Ahead program, testers were able to experience this powerful browser. This gives some players the opportunity to demo upcoming features and updates before they are rolled out to the entire Xbox community.

According to The Verge, the new browser looks quite promising. The browser does not yet have full keyboard and mouse support and is quite buggy in this test version, but it has some nice features.

It has improved compatibility with browser-based games and popular web services like Skype and Discord. Most interesting, however, is that Edge on Xbox now offers access to Google's Stadia in-browser streaming service and the Amazon Luna cloud gaming platform.

Given that Google has discontinued all first-party development of cloud-based game streaming services, it is questionable how useful access to Google Stadia will be. However, it is an additional feature that would add to the appeal of the Xbox Series X

. In theory, the enhanced version of Edge should also support Xbox Cloud Gaming via the browser, which will be launched later this spring. Of course, since all Xbox consoles already have native access to Xbox Game Pass, this feature may be a bit redundant.

Edge powered by Chromium uses the same synchronization engine as the current console versions of the browser, with extensions, vertical tabs, collections, and most of the features found in the desktop version of Edge. Edge Chromium also provides a generally much smoother and faster web experience.

It is unclear when this upgraded new Microsoft Edge browser will be released. However, given that it has already been tested in Microsoft's preview program, it is expected that a full version will be released relatively soon.
