Forget Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra: This stunning Android flagship boasts a 165hz display

Can you believe another high-performance gaming phone is on the way, the RedMagic 6 Pro has been announced and looks set to take a shot at the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Asus ROG Phone 5.

Not only does it have 18GB of RAM, but the display has an impressive refresh rate of 165Hz; if you think 120Hz is impressive, this will probably blow your socks off.

The RedMagic 6 Pro is powered by Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset and features a 6.8-inch full HD OLED display, capacitive "shoulder trigger" on both sides, up to 512GB of storage, and a 120W fast charging system. If you ask us, this is pretty impressive.

There are other models besides the Pro, but their charging systems are not as great. It has a larger 5,050 mAh battery, but it takes 38 minutes to reach 100% using only a 66W charger. It also only has a maximum of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

As for the cameras, both models have a triple lens system on the back, with a 64MP main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. It's not the best camera, but you wouldn't buy this phone for the photo features. There is also a front sensor for selfies, which is hidden in the phone's bezel. In other words, there is no notch, hole punch, or pop-up camera. Like many phones, both models have 5G, USB-C connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is no need to worry about audio delays as with Bluetooth headphones.

Interestingly, the RedMagic 6 will be released in collaboration with China's Tencent. This means it will be optimized for Tencent apps such as WeChat and QQ and will come pre-installed with the company's Solar Core gaming software.

While these apps are not that popular outside of China, Solar Core promises to improve game response times, frame rates, and network latency. This will be very helpful when playing games.

The RedMagic 6 starts at NT$3,799 ($585) and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; the RedMagic 6 Pro starts at NT$4,399 ($677) but comes with only 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The top-of-the-line model with 18GB of RAM and 256GB of storage costs 6,599 yuan ($1,017). In other words, this is not a cheap piece of hardware. Official pricing in the U.S. has not yet been revealed.

The phone is already available for pre-order in China, and a worldwide launch is expected by the end of the month.
