The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is one of the most expensive smartphones you can buy. But a price cut has made it at least a little cheaper than before.

Samsung has announced that it will permanently reduce the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G by $200. Going forward, the phone will be priced at $1,799, down from $1,999 for the foldable device that debuted last year.

In addition, users who currently own the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G and Galaxy Z Flip can use a special referral code with another user to receive a $100 credit for both to use on any device at the Samsung Store as part of the same promotion. The $200 price cut on the Z Fold 2 will remain permanent

The price cut makes the phone a bit more affordable - at least compared to the previous asking price. The move follows the price cut of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G to $1,199 in February. This is part of an effort to produce what Samsung says will be a "more accessible" foldable phone in 2021, which hopefully means lower prices for new models down the road.

Speaking of new models, Samsung could also lower the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, paving the way for a new version of the foldable phone; the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is in development and is rumored to be likely to appear later this year, but one rumor suggests that the new foldable could appear as early as May. [The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to follow the Galaxy S21 Ultra and add S Pen support, which was limited to the Galaxy Note lineup. It may also feature an under-display camera, which has long been rumored to be included in Samsung's flagships.
