Tesla service centers are likely to be jammed as the electric car company recalled nearly 500,000 vehicles due to a faulty rearview camera cable and front trunk latch.

As reported by Bloomberg, Tesla recalled 475,000 vehicles due to problems that could increase the risk of accidents.

The company recalled all Tesla Model 3s manufactured between 2017 and 2020 due to a faulty rearview camera cable harness that could be caused by opening and closing the trunk. If the harness is damaged, the rear view image may not be displayed, potentially causing the driver to accidentally hit something or someone.

Also, 119,009 Tesla Model S vehicles assembled after 2014 are being recalled because of a faulty front trunk latch that could cause the hood to open suddenly. The front track snapping open while driving on the highway is obviously dangerous.

Tesla told the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that 2,305 warranty claims may be related to either of these two defects.

This is not Tesla's first major recall. The last major recall was in 2018, when Takata airbags were recalled. The Takata airbags could fire metal fragments at occupants during deployment, potentially injuring or killing them. The recall affected not only Tesla, but much of the auto industry, including Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Mercedes; the NHTSA reported that at least 27 people have died as a result of the defective airbags.

Earlier this year, all Chevrolet Volts were recalled due to an increased risk of fire. Chevrolet asked drivers to park outdoors and not charge their cars overnight while it assesses the situation.

Despite these setbacks, Tesla vehicles are still considered among the safest in the auto industry; according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Model 3 has received Top Safety Pick+ honors, and Model S vehicles built since 2016 have received good overall scores have received a score of "good overall.
