Apple AirPower reborn - True Wireless Charging could be Coming to your iPhone

The Apple AirPower, an ambitious wireless charging mat, was a bit of an embarrassment for Apple after all; publicly unveiled in 2017 along with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the multi-device charger was not until March 2019 when Apple announced that its "high standards" It was never mentioned until the company officially pulled the plug, citing vague concerns that it would not meet It was rumored to have been suffering from overheating due to challenges inherent in the manufacture of multicoil devices, and it was rumored to have been worse than that.

However, it seems that Apple has not completely given up on the idea of AirPower, and in fact, they are dreaming of giving it an upgrade that would surpass the best wireless chargers currently out there.

For more information on multi-device chargers, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman explains in the latest issue of his newsletter Power On that Apple is still planning a device that can charge iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch simultaneously. But more than that, Apple wants to eventually introduce true wireless charging to this product line.

This has been demonstrated before by companies like Xiaomi, but Apple apparently has ambitions to take it further and eventually achieve devices that can wirelessly "charge each other." This would be a big leap for a company that is usually slow to adopt new cutting-edge technologies. It doesn't even offer reverse wireless charging yet, which is featured in Samsung's Galaxy S21.

"Imagine an iPad charging an iPhone, and that iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch," Garman wrote.

The idea of true wireless charging was first mentioned in a June Bloomberg report, which described it as "probably years away." The closest Apple has come to reverse wireless charging is the ability to charge the MagSafe battery pack while the iPhone is still connected.

But even if that product is the ultimate goal, of course that doesn't mean Apple won't release a less ambitious version beforehand. Especially since third-party options from Mophie ($89) and Belkin ($149) are available on the companies' websites.

On the other hand, the best Apple has to offer is the $129 MagSafe Duo charger. This, as its name suggests, can only charge two products at a time and has been criticized for not offering the fastest charging speeds. I would be very surprised if Apple doesn't have a plan to fix this sooner rather than later. And Apple also needs to fix some strange Bluetooth issues that some iPhone 12 and 13 owners encounter in certain automobiles.
