Motorola Razr3 specs leaked - and it actually managed to beat the Galaxy Z Flip3

According to a new report on the Motorola Razr 3, the rumored follow-up to Motorola's foldable phone, the Motorola Razr 3 may be significantly more powerful. If the report is accurate, we may finally have a phone that can compete with Samsung's excellent Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The Motorola Razr is Motorola's classic flip phone with a foldable display that allows the phone to be opened for a full-screen experience. When initially released in late 2019, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 chip set, which was underwhelming for such an expensive device. Motorola upgraded to the Snapdragon 765G for the subsequent Razr, but it still couldn't overtake the best folding phones.

However, Motorola may make further improvements for the next Razr, tentatively called the "Razr 3," according to XDA Developers. The report, which cites inside sources, claims that the Razr 3 will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and will launch with Android 12. This is currently Qualcomm's most powerful silicon and would be a big step up from what the Razr has used in the past.

According to XDA's sources, joining the new silicon will be 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage. The current Motorola Razr only offers 8GB RAM/256GB storage, so more options, including higher capacity versions, is welcome news.

It will also reportedly support ultra-wideband, which is starting to appear on flagships like the iPhone 13. Ultra-wideband will be useful for tracking purposes, such as locating cell phones and compatible key trackers.

Some of the other information on the XDA is a bit vague. The next Razr will again have a secondary external display, but details on its size and other details are unknown. The current Razr 5G has a 2.7" external display, so expect the next model to be a bit larger.

On the inner display, the camera is said to move out of the current iPhone-style notch. However, XDA could not say whether the camera will be housed in a punch hole or in a slimmer notch. As for display specs, XDA said the Razr may have a 120Hz FHD panel, but did not tell us the size. For comparison, the current Razr 5G's inner screen is 6.2 inches

Another disappointing spec missing from the report is the Razr 3's camera; the Razr 5G has a 48MP main camera and a built-in 20MP selfie camera, covering basic functions but it does not have an ultrawide sensor like the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Taken as a whole, these leaked specs sound like the coup the Razr needs. The original Motorola Razr 2019 and Razr 5G were both underwhelming devices, with Samsung conquering the clamshell folding market segment almost by default. It will be interesting to see if anytime Motorola launches a new Razr, it will be the third time around.
