Turning Red Trailer, Disney Plus release date, cast and more

Pixar's next film, Turning Red, has a streaming date. Yes, the film will not be released theatrically. The film raises an interesting question. What if anxiety took a very cute, yet shocking form? We've seen Bruce Banner transform into a big green Hulk, but let me introduce you to Mae Lee, a 13-year-old girl who turns bright red when she gets excited. No, I'm not blushing.

Mae Lee transforms into a giant red panda, as you can see in the Turning Red trailer below. Her transformation even comes with pink smoke. Not only does "Turning Red" look like fun, but it will also be a return to normalcy for Pixar, with reports that the film will have a full theatrical release when it is released next year.

Here's what you need to know about Disney and Pixar's Turning Red:

At the beginning of the Turning Red trailer, Mae is a very normal 13-year-old, but then her mother shows up. As any student will tell you, that is the last thing you want to happen at school. Mei's mother starts kicking the school security guard, causing Mei to panic mildly. After a giant puff of pink smoke, we see a red panda.

Pixar's trailers haven't piqued our interest in quite some time, but "Turning Red" has us ready to see this film right away.

We originally thought "Turning Red" would be released on March 11, 2022, but now we know it will be released exclusively on Disney Plus on March 11, 2022.

While most of the cast has not been revealed, the official synopsis in the trailer description gives us one great reason to be excited. Sandra Oh ("Killing Eve," "Raya and the Last Dragon") voices Ming Lee, Mei's slightly overprotective mother.

Mei is played by relative newcomer Rosalie Chen, whose IMDb page lists three appearances: in Soiled and The Interns (two 2018 shorts) and two episodes of 2017's Clique Wars.

And let's not forget Dommy Shih, the director of Turning Red. See directed the 2018 Pixar short film "Bao," about a woman who cooks a baozi and brings it to life. Shi is the first female director to direct a Pixar short, and Turning Red is her directorial debut.
