Rumors of the Google Pixel Fold have been heard for some time now. In fact, the last we heard was that Google had dropped plans to release this phone. However, if this Geekbench report is to be believed, there may still be a chance for the Fold to hit the market.

The report via MySmartPrice mentions the "Google Pipit" as the codename for the Pixel Fold, and the list of specs included looks impressive.

Screenshots of the benchmarks show that it has 12GB of RAM, Android 12, and a Mali-G78 GPU. Meanwhile, the chipset has 8 cores and clock speeds ranging from 1.8 GHz to 2.8 GHz, suggesting that it is Google's in-house Tensor chipset that debuted on the Pixel 6.

You may recall that the Pixel 6 Pro runs on identical hardware, but since it has already been released, there would be no reason to test it under a different codename. But whatever this phone is, the report suggests that Google is focused on performance. [But whether it is good enough to compete with the best folding phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 remains to be seen. One possibility for Google to challenge Samsung is price. For example, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro cost $599 and $899, respectively, while the Galaxy S21 ($799) and Galaxy S21 Ultra ($1,199) cost $200 to $300 more.

With all this being said, there is no evidence that this is definitely a Pixel Fold. However, given the similarities between this phone and the Pixel 6 Pro, it seems unlikely that Google would release this phone without something to help differentiate it.

It is also worth pointing out that the Geekbench score, whatever it is, does not mean that this phone will see the light of day. That is, if this report is not a fake. After all, cell phone manufacturers often have various devices and prototypes that are discarded at some stage of development and never actually launched.

Unfortunately, the Pixel Fold is shrouded in mystery, and we have no material to compare this report with beyond the Pixel 6 range; there are several reports claiming that the Pixel Fold will feature a 7.6-inch foldable display, and we have no evidence that the Fold will feature a single 12MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie lens, and we've seen rumors that the Fold will feature a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie lens. [Time will tell if the Pipit will become the Pixel Fold or disappear without a trace. But if Google intends to unveil this phone soon, there are several opportunities: the Mobile World Congress will likely open at the end of February, and Google I/O will likely take place in May.
