Features of the OnePlus10Pro camera revealed - here is a sample of the first photos

Update (January 7): we picked the OnePlus 10 as one of the most interesting phones unveiled at CES 2022.

Once again, the official teaser for the OnePlus 10 Pro has appeared, raising expectations for the upcoming Android flagship phone. This latest reveal is all about the camera, with OnePlus leaking information about new photo features and showing off a few samples, which are listed below.

First up, OnePlus says it wants to highlight its "Billion Color Solution." This allows all three rear cameras, a 48MP main sensor plus a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens, to shoot in 10-bit color, which OnePlus says is 64 times more powerful than the system used in the OnePlus 9 Pro.

OnePlus also updated the OnePlus 10 Pro's Hasselblad Pro mode. Enabling this mode unlocks shooting in 12-bit RAW format, which maximizes the use of editing information. The image gallery below shows how the original image (the first one) can be re-edited in multiple ways.

You can also use the new RAW Plus format. This format combines enhanced detail with the post-processing that the phone normally performs, allowing you to take advantage of the best of both worlds. As a result, the range of final edits is different but still diverse, as shown below.

The ultra-wide camera on the OnePlus 10 Pro has been upgraded to use a much wider 150-degree field of view than the average smartphone offers. Incidentally, the iPhone 13 series and Samsung Galaxy S21 series both use ultrawide cameras with a 120-degree field of view, and the OnePlus 9 series, while impressive, now has over 113 degrees The OnePlus 10 Pro is capable of taking more shots than not only to fit in, but also to manipulate the new fisheye mode effect.

If the 150-degree FOV seems too wide for your liking, OnePlus will allow you to set the FOV to 110 degrees instead.

Finally, there is a movie mode, which is effectively an extended version of the basic video mode; controls such as ISO and shutter speed can be adjusted before you start recording and on the fly, plus the option to record in LOG format for more detailed editing later. This is the iPhone 13 version we saw last year. This feels very similar to the cinematic mode and ProRes capabilities of the iPhone 13 we saw last year.

The introduction of the Hasselblad partnership on the OnePlus 9 series last year greatly improved the photo and video capabilities of the OnePlus phones, but not enough to make it to the top of our Best Camera Phones guide. All of these changes should appeal to the advanced photographer/videographer demographic you need to appeal to, but if anything, the most important thing OnePlus needs to get right is the default experience. iPhone 13 and Google Pixel 6, our two top camera phones, but both make it really easy to take great photos without having to dive deep into the options. That's something we'll only find out when we get our hands on the OnePlus 10 Pro, not from this teaser.

The full OnePlus 10 Pro will be revealed on January 11 when it goes on sale in China. Global launches for other markets, including the US and UK, will follow.

2022 will bring significant changes to OnePlus' flagship phone in several ways. Its software is merging the two handset makers to adopt elements for ColorOS from Oppo. In terms of hardware, the OnePlus 10 Pro will be capable of 80W of wired charging and 50W of wireless charging, which is the fastest speed we have seen in a smartphone. It will also use the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
