Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can have the brightest display

Samsung's Galaxy S22 could have the brightest display of any smartphone to date, SamMobile reported.

The publication, citing industry sources, claims that the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra could feature displays with a peak brightness of 1,750 nits. This is significantly higher than the peak brightness of Samsung's Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra (1,300 nits and 1,500 nits, respectively).

For reference, peak brightness is the maximum brightness that the screen automatically increases to improve visibility in very bright environments, e.g., outdoors on a sunny day. While this is great from a practical standpoint, very bright screens have other advantages.

In general, displays with high peak luminance can increase the level of color contrast and change from deep blacks to the brightest whites; proper high dynamic range, such as HDR10 or Dolby Vision, with peak luminances of over 1,000 nits tends to work best on displays.

Samsung's Galaxy S21 series displays are not bad, and Samsung has always produced flagships with very good screens. However, if the rumors are accurate, this upgrade could be a notable boost, especially in the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the likely spiritual successor to the Note series.

Big phones with bright displays make excellent gaming and video devices, and sometimes offer better panels than some of the best TVs. But they can also help when editing photos, and the increased brightness can bring out fine details that would be missed on a dull screen.

The Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, which may have the brightest panels, could come out on top in movie viewing, gaming, and photo manipulation on the move.

Bright displays are not the only thing the Galaxy S22 series has going for it; all three models are expected to use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, or the rumored new Exynos 2200, for improved performance. They are also expected to have upgraded camera features and sensors, as well as faster charging speeds.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to be the most exciting phone of the trio, offering a sleek look and a vast display, in addition to the aforementioned notebook-style design that can house an S Pen The Galaxy S22 is expected to be announced on February 9 and will soon likely to compete for the top spot on the best phones list.
