Morbius release date, trailer, cast and everything else we know

Jared Leto will appear in the next Spider-Man-related Sony film, Morbius. Scheduled to be released after Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film will introduce another Spidey villain: the living vampire, Morbius. However, the film's release has been delayed even further than expected.

However, like Eddie Brock, whom we met in "Venom" and "Venom 2: Don't Allow the Killing," the film does not seem to intend to feature Morbius as a villain. Instead, like his vampire skin, there are shades of gray.

Spoiler alert: This article covers news from the post-credit scene of "Venom 2" and all the rumors about "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

After a short wait, Morpheus' first full trailer finally arrived on Tuesday, November 2. The video, which makes one wonder which cinematic universe Morpheus is in, seems to foretell a lot about the clash between Sony and Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

As you can see, the trailer makes numerous references to Venom (as the San Francisco incident and Morbius acknowledges Venom by name. This could lead one to believe that it is part of Sony's current Spider-Man and Venom movie starring Tom Holland and Tom Hardy.

However, at 1:41 in the trailer, the OSCORP logo is clearly visible on the building, and Norman Osborn's OSCORP has not yet appeared in the MCU - but is in the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films. However, it did appear in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man movie.

The Daily Bugle's appearance as a newspaper in the "Morbius" trailer gives more reason to believe that "Morbius" is a Sonny Verse film; in the MCU, the Bugle is rather It's J. Jonah Jameson's YouTube channel, which fuels conspiracy theories. The paper's headline also features Spider-Man characters Black Cat and Rhino, the former of which has yet to appear in a film, while the latter is played by Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

But there are also reasons to tie Morbius to the MCU.

The biggest piece of evidence is that Michael Keaton (who became Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming) appears to be returning as Adrian Toombs.

There is another freeze-frame in the Spider-Man street art. This refers to the accusations hurled at Spider-Man/Peter Parker by Quentin Beck (Mysterio) at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

How does it all fit together? Well, only if there is a multiverse wall-shattering Spider-Man movie in the works. Wait, the trailer for "Spider-Man: No Way Home" showed us just that.

According to Deadline, "Morbius" has been delayed from January 28 and will be released on April 1, 2022. According to the media outlet, the continued success of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" contributed to the decision, and Sony does not want to take screens away from the biggest film of last year.

Also, being a Sony Pictures film, it will not be streamed on that date. However, a few months after that date, Morbius will be available on Netflix due to a deal between Sony and Netflix. And about a year and a half later, Morbius will appear on Disney Plus, thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney.

As noted above, the big news here is the return of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toombs. Is this the same Toombs who was imprisoned in Spider-Man: Homecoming? Or is this someone from another universe?

The full cast list is as follows.

Morbius was attacked by a swarm of bats while searching for a cure for his illness. As a result, he developed peculiar abilities. As stated in the trailer, Morbius has:

And the trailer showed that this Morbius can also fly and transform into vampire form. In the comics, Morbius also has night vision and accelerated healing.
