The new Alienware34QD-OLED monitor is the most amazing display I've ever seen

Alienware is dominating CES 2022 with one of the most stunning displays I have ever laid eyes on. The Alienware 34 Curved QD-LED Gaming Monitor, the world's first quantum dot OLED monitor, is sure to amaze gamers and non-gamers alike.

For those unfamiliar with quantum dot OLEDs, here's an overview: the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED is designed to deliver the ultra-wide viewing angles and perfect blacks that OLED panels are known for, along with superior color performance. It also delivers the industry's fastest response time of 0.1ms and a native refresh rate of 175Hz for smooth game play.

I had a chance to get a little hands-on time with the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED.

The Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED gaming monitor will be available on March 29. Unfortunately, Dell is holding off on announcing pricing until closer to launch, but expect the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED to be rather expensive.

Dell currently offers a 38-inch curved gaming monitor for $1,459, but this model does not use OLEDs. However, since QD-OLED is a new technology, it is difficult to predict the price of this particular model.

The quantum dot display technology pioneered by Samsung combines the crispness and pixel-perfect contrast of OLEDs with the increased brightness and expanded colors offered by quantum dot technology. The result is a display that is the best of both worlds, offering (ideally) the impeccable quality of an OLED without sacrificing the brightness and color offered by a QLED panel.

34 Regarding Curved QD-OLEDs, Alienware states that quantum dot technology delivers superior color performance with higher peak brightness and a wider color gamut compared to white OLEDs (WOLEDs). The trick is that QD-OLEDs convert blue light directly into the primary colors read and green through the quantum dot pixel layer. For more information, see our explanation of what a QD-OLED is.

If you are looking for serious color performance, you will be pleased to know that the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED gaming monitor is rated to cover 99.3% of the demanding DCI-P3 color gamut. Additionally, in addition to the Delta-E factory calibration <2 means that the colors should be accurate out of the box.

infinite contrast ratio, this monitor should deliver 1000 nits of peak brightness and has VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certification.

When I saw the trailer for Destiny 2 at a direct briefing before CES 2022, I was amazed at the spectacular colors and ultra-wide viewing angles of this monitor. I stood off to the side, watching others marvel at the panel, but not noticing the washout.

As expected, the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED is Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate certified, so expect low latency gameplay along with HDR and cinematic color support.

According to Alienware, this monitor boasts the industry's fastest 0.1ms GtG (gray-to-gray) response time, with a refresh rate of 175Hz when using DisplayPort; with HDMI it drops to 100Hz. In any case, if you pair this monitor with the best gaming PC or the best gaming laptop, you can expect fluid gameplay and quick response times no matter what you are playing.

It wouldn't be an Alienware monitor without the shiny Alienware head and the company's futuristic Legend 2 design. The real draw, however, is the display itself, with its 1800R curved panel. It also features customizable stadium loop OLED AlienFX lighting, improved cable management, and an OSD 5-axis joystick for setting adjustments.

The height-adjustable stand has tilt, swivel, and tilt capabilities, allowing for considerable customization of the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED viewing experience.

Creative professionals will no doubt be attracted to this QD-OLED monitor, and Alienware caters to them with a dedicated creator mode: switching between DCI-P3 and sRGB color spaces and adjusting gamma settings on the fly.

The Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor is likely to be the ultimate monitor for gamers, for those willing to pay a premium. But it also has the makings to be a great monitor for creative professionals who want the best color performance and accuracy for video and photo editing.

But Alienware was not the only company to show off a great gaming monitor at CES 2022. Samsung unveiled the Odyssey Neo G8, the world's first 4K 240Hz monitor.

Our lab has been thoroughly testing the best gaming monitors and we are very much looking forward to evaluating this display to see if the first quantum dot display lives up to the hype.
