Xiaomi12Pro officially features this groundbreaking display

More Xiaomi 12 secrets have been revealed on Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun's Weibo page. This time he told us some fun things about the screen of his top smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, due out next week

Lei introduced the 12 Pro's display by calling it a "second-generation low-power 2K screen." In this case, 2K is used in the same sense as Quad HD (QHD), the current gold standard for flagship smartphone displays. He then describes several ways in which Xiaomi has improved the power efficiency of its displays.

Some of these were achieved through technologies such as new light-emitting materials and microprism technology, which, while undoubtedly important, are of little significance to users. Even more interesting is the mention of phones using a new generation of LTPO material (part of the smartphone's screen, which allows for adaptive high refresh rates). This appears to be the same technology that OnePlus teased it would use for its next phone, the OnePlus 10 Pro

, but earlier images of the 12 Pro from Xiaomi, though not mentioned in this post, suggest the display is slightly curved. However, the base Xiaomi 12 will not have this embellishment; instead, it will feature a smaller, flat-edge FHD panel, according to Xiaomi's previously released teaser.

Likewise, both displays have received an A+ rating from DisplayMate, Lei later posted. The post also revealed that both displays are made of Gorilla Glass Victus, one of the most durable smartphone materials available today.

Another confirmed detail about the Xiaomi 12 is that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Other rumors include 67W charging and a triple 50MP camera array.

Xiaomi has already reported that the 12 and 12 Pro will debut on December 28. It won't be long to wait until then, but if you want to actually purchase the Xiaomi 12, the wait will likely be a bit longer, as Xiaomi will first prioritize the launch in its home market of China. Looking back to last year, the Xiaomi Mi 11 debuted in December 2020, but was not released worldwide until March 2021.
