OnePlus10Pro can take the adaptive display to the next level

The OnePlus 10 Pro is already shaping up to be a beast of a flagship device, thanks to the constant flow of information from the company's co-founder, Pete Lau. He's got another fascinating tidbit of information that will help set the Pro apart from the best Android phones.

In a message on Chinese social media site Weibo, as reported by GSM Arena, Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature a next-generation LTPO display.

LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) is a type of OLED display backplane that can quickly change the screen refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. When static content is present, the display clock is significantly reduced, leading to longer battery life. This technology is also used in displays such as the iPhone 13 Pro.

It is not at all certain what benefits LTPO 2.0 will bring besides "a new level of smoothness," according to Lau. Of course, hands-on time is needed before he can give his full impressions.

Lau also touted his healthy relationship with Samsung Display: the OnePlus 7 Pro was one of the first phones to bring high-fresh OLED displays to market, starting with the Razer Phone in 2017, and the rest of the industry quickly followed suit; the OnePlus 9 Pro brought LTPO technology, first introduced on Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in 2020, which also became standard on several flagships.

As of now, the OnePlus 10 Pro will be officially unveiled at CES 2022 in Las Vegas in early January. Unfortunately, with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 spreading across the US at a tremendous rate, even faster than the delta wave earlier this summer, it appears that next year's CES may be a remote possibility. Already, media representatives and vendors are pulling out of this massive technology conference. If even a face-to-face meeting is cancelled, Lau will probably have to virtually unveil OnePlus' next phone.

At this point, rumors and information directly from Lau indicate that a 6.7-inch OnePlus 10 Pro with 2K resolution, 48MP main camera, 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, and Android 12 will be announced. Lau also confirmed that the phone will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
