Google Maps can get the ability to change this game

Google Maps is an incredibly useful tool. But going back and forth between different locations is not ideal. That's why this new "dock-to-bottom" feature sounds so appealing.

As I see it, this is an experimental feature discovered by Search Engine Roundtable (via Android Police) that allows desktop users to save locations to a dock at the bottom of the map. That way, they can easily switch between the locations they are checking.

This feature works by providing a "dock down" button on the business profile, and clicking it pins that profile to the bottom of the screen. Thus:

This feature appears to be incredibly limited at present. Some have reported seeing this feature but later being unable to reproduce it.

There is no guarantee that this feature will see the light of day. Google is well known for discontinuing features during the experimental phase, and the fact that some people are unable to reproduce it does not bode well.

Still, this is a feature that I would like to see implemented in Google Maps, which would make comparing locations easier than ever. Especially on mobile, there is no room to open another tab. Only time will tell.
