The age of the electric truck seems to have arrived. While Tesla's oddly linear cyber truck has been delayed until 2022, other automakers, like Rivian, are keeping pace with their original goals. One such company is Hummer, which just delivered the first GMC Hummer EV.

Hummer's parent company, General Motors, announced the news on its website, confirming that the Hummer EV Edition 1 has started rolling off the production line. Sadly, however, that truck has been sold out for months now, so your own electric Hummer will be a long wait.

According to GM, the Hummer EV is the first vehicle to be built on the company's Ultium platform. The Ultium will underpin several future GM EVs, including the upcoming Cadillac Relic and Chevrolet Silverado, and will help electrify GM's future lineup.

As befits a car bearing the Hummer name, the Hummer EV Edition 1 will be a beast of a machine. Not only will it be the huge-sized truck that Hummer is best known for, but it is also set to offer 1,000 horsepower, 1,500 lb-ft of torque, and a range of about 329 miles.

That power accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. That is quite impressive for a truck of this size. Also, at $100,295, one would expect something quite special.

On top of that, the Hummer has a "club walk" mode that allows the driver to drive at an angle at low speeds; models built after 2023 have the option of raising the suspension six inches.

Like any good electric car, the Hummer EV will have autonomous driving capabilities. In this case, it is GM's Super Cruise. Super Cruise is still a Level 2 autonomous driving system and requires the driver to pay attention at all times. However, it is one of the only driver assistance packages that allows the driver to take his or her hands off the wheel.

It also means that Hummer is part of an exclusive club, as Super Cruise has been limited to certain Cadillacs and Chevy Volts.

But while the Edition 1 Hummer EV may be out of reach, other models are coming in the next few years. Next up is the EV3X, due in fall 2022, priced at $99,995, with 830 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and a range of over 300 miles; the EV2X will arrive in spring 2023 for $89,995, with a range of 300 miles, 625 horsepower, 7,400 lb-ft of torque, and with a range of 300 miles, 625 horsepower, and 7,400 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, there is the Hummer EV2, due in spring 2024, with the same 625 hp and 7,400 lb-ft of torque as the EV2X, but with a range of only 250 miles. It is priced at $79,995. This and two other models can be ordered on the Hummer website and require a $100 refundable deposit.
