The new Paramount Plus series, a top pick for new movies and shows to watch this weekend, stars Sam Elliott as a cowboy trail guide and country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton.

They eventually settle on a Montana ranch run by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), their descendant in the present day of Yellowstone Season 4.

But first they must go to Montana. The Duttons, along with their daughter Elsa (Isabel May), set out west across the Great Plains to the last bastion of untamed America. The tough cowboy Shea Brennan (Elliott) and Pinkerton Agent Thomas (Lamonica Garrett) guide them along the harsh and unforgiving road. The Dutton family encounters characters with good intentions and bad, including U.S. Marshal Jim Courtright (guest star Billy Bob Thornton).

"1883" is a caustic tale of the Wild West and an intense study of one family's escape from poverty in search of a better future in America's Promised Land.
