Xiaomi12 looks stunning in leaked rendering

When the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip was officially unveiled, Xiaomi wasted no time in announcing that it would be one of the first manufacturers to use the new SoC in its upcoming flagship smartphone.

We've already seen what the Xiaomi 12 Ultra looks like, and now, thanks to prolific leakers OnLeaks and Zoutons, we get our first look at the regular Xiaomi 12.

Needless to say, while the huge circular camera bump made the Ultra model stand out from the crowd, the Xiaomi 12 rendered images show something more mundane, albeit very stylish looking.

The rendered images show a phone with a gently curved design and a slightly raised rectangular camera bump that houses three lenses, reportedly including a 50MP sensor.

On the front, there is a selfie camera with a hole in the top center edge of the display. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side, and the bottom of the phone has a USB-C port and speaker grille.

The phone appears to measure 152.7 x 70 x 8.6 mm (11.5 mm including the camera bump), which if true would make it significantly smaller than the 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.1 mm Xiaomi Mi 11. In fact, reports indicate that the phone will feature a 6.2-inch 1080p display, which is considerably smaller than the 6.8-inch panel of the previous model.

The leakers also claim that their sources have confirmed that the phone will have a 5000mAh battery. For reference, the OnePlus 9 Pro, currently the fastest charging device available, can fill its entire 4,500mAh battery in just over 30 minutes on a 65W charger from empty. And while certainly a reduced yield is to be expected, this could be very impressive as well.

The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Ultra are expected to be announced any day now. Given that the phone's predecessor arrived last December, the question seems to be whether its successor will arrive before the end of the year or if it will be delayed to January 2022.

Either way, it's the first time we've seen the power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so everyone should be paying attention, whether they intend to import it or not.
