Samsung Galaxy S21FE full specs just leaked - here's what you get

Given that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has been going back and forth for so long, you would think that the rumored specs would have been settled by now; WinFuture's report highlights two small but potentially significant changes.

While most of the listed specs, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 6/8GB RAM, and a 6.4-inch 1080p 120Hz screen, can be recited at this point, there are two surprises.

First, the positives. While previous leaks indicated that it would have a 4,370mAh battery, WinFuture claims that it will actually have a 4,500mAh battery. Of course, the difference is smaller than a typical smartwatch battery, but every little bit helps.

The same earlier leak also suggests that a photo upgrade is in the works, with a triple camera array consisting of a 32MP main snapper, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens. [i.e., a triple array of a f/1.8 wide-angle 12MP main sensor, a f/2.2 12MP lens, and a f/2.4 optical telephoto 8MP camera.

Of course, that doesn't mean the camera won't be an improvement over the S20 FE; a look at the Google Pixel 6 will show that the upgraded software will also make a big difference. With that in mind, the Galaxy S21 FE is expected to have better computed photos, better image quality, and better camera features as part of the One UI 4, even if the bare specs remain unchanged.

That said, while the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has a perfect camera, we would still be a little disappointed if the S21 FE did not receive the hardware upgrades we were expecting. However, that is likely the least of this phone's problems.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is scheduled to be announced and released in January, and anyone who follows these things knows that the Galaxy S22 will be available soon, probably in February. It goes without saying that the Galaxy S22 will be an excellent device for those who insist on having the latest and greatest, albeit at a premium price.

But an even bigger problem for Samsung is that historically its high-end handsets have not held their value very well. At the time of this writing, you can buy a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S21 for about $550; the S21 FE, which is supposed to be an objectively weaker phone, will reportedly go for $699. That's a decent price, but hard to justify for those looking for the best value. New rumors suggest it could be higher, though.

Of course, that may not matter, since not everyone looks that deeply into the phones they buy. But once it becomes clear that the S21 FE will not live up to the S20 FE's October release window, Samsung may regret not canceling the S21 FE. And in the meantime, here is a guide to the five major upgrades we expect to see in the Galaxy S21.
