Windows 11 has had many problems since its launch in October. One of the most frustrating was how Microsoft's latest operating affects the performance of certain NVMe solid-state drives. Microsoft promised to release a patch to remedy the issue and is now making good on that claim with patch KB5007262, released on November 22 through the Windows Insider program. Once downloaded and installed, it should improve device performance. However, this update is not provided as part of Windows' automatic updates and must be installed manually.

The procedure is not very complicated (via Tech Advisor). To install patch KB5007262, open "Settings," select "Windows Update" from the left pane, and click "Check for Updates. If the patch is available, wait for it to download and install automatically. Then reboot the device to apply the changes. If the patch KB5007262 does not appear in "Settings," you can download it from the official Microsoft Update catalog instead. Be sure to select the x64 version unless your device is an ARM-based processor.

What is interesting about this particular issue is that it had a significant impact on SSD write speeds: an article posted on the Microsoft forums in October showed benchmarks run on CrystalDiskMark.
