Since its launch nearly two years ago, Disney Plus has kept cancellations of its original programming fairly in check. Compared to streaming rival Netflix's extreme reluctance to pull the trigger on cancellations, Disney Plus original series are usually given ample time to find an audience.

However, this freedom is not infinite, and Disney Plus appears to have run out of patience with one of its early original shows, Diary of a Future Present. The show's creator, Ilana Peña, announced on Twitter that Disney will not move forward with a third season of this comedy-drama series.

In a statement, Peña said: "We want to continue telling this story, but are grateful for the two seasons we were able to produce." She also thanked the cast, crew, and fans for their passion and dedication shown throughout the two seasons of the show.

"Future Diary" first appeared on streaming services in January 2020, with a total of 20 episodes. The family-friendly show followed Elena Canelo-Read, a young Cuban-American girl trying to make it through middle school while aspiring to be the future president of the United States. Tess Romero played Canelo-Read, and Gina Rodriguez portrayed a character inspired by the future president. [The cancellation of Diary of a Future President came shortly after another series was canceled by Disney. Streamer's misguided reboot of "Turner & Hooch" will also not be revived. Disney Plus canceled the show after one season, suggesting that "Turner & Hooch" had very low ratings.

Disney Plus undoubtedly has a long way to go before it gains the reputation of a rash cancellation like Netflix's. However, these two quick cancellations clearly demonstrate that the House of Mouse can be ruthless with streaming platforms when it deems it necessary. While such an approach is understandable, one would hope that quality programming would continue to be given time to secure its audience base.

While we may no longer see "Diary of a Future President" on Disney Plus, there is still plenty of fresh content on the platform in the coming months. "The Book of Boba Fett" will launch during the holiday season With a launch and dozens of Marvel projects in the pipeline, subscribers less interested in sci-fi and superheroes will be pleased to know that the third season of "High School Musical: The Musical Series" will premiere in 2022.

In TV programming outside of Disney Plus (and family content), the big event this week is the season 18 finale of The Bachelorette; for 2022, Tom's Guide feels Disney Plus needs something to talk about and feels that it is a good idea.
