The first trailer for the third installment of the "Fantastic Beasts" film series was released on the Internet today. Titled "Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secret," the film sees series lead Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) team up with young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to confront the dark wizard Gellert Grindelbard ( The film depicts them as they confront the dark wizard Gellert Grindelbard (Mads Mikkelsen) and his army of loyal followers.

This film is a sequel to 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelbard, which received rather poor reviews from critics and rabid Harry Potter fans alike. This third film has been positioned as a course correction by Warner Bros. to get the Wizarding World franchise back on track.

The first two "Fantastic Beasts" films were written solely by Potter author J.K. Rowling, who did not write the screenplay independently this time. Instead, "Dumbledore's Secret" was co-written by Rowling with Steve Kloves, who has scripted every Potter film since "Order of the Phoenix."

That is not the only change in the third installment of the franchise. Johnny Depp, who played the villain Grindelbard in the first two films, has been recast. This time, Mads Mikkelsen will play the role. In this trailer, we get our first glimpse of the veteran actor as Grindelbald, and he certainly looks the part of a tyrannical sorcerer.

The trailer also introduces several new locations in the Wizarding World, and while the film looks to be a globe-trotting adventure, one place that will be immediately familiar to fans is Hogwarts. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is featured prominently in the trailer, and it is expected that a significant portion of the story will take place within its iconic walls.

Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law are not the only characters returning from the previous "Fantastic Beasts" film. Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, and Katherine Waterston also return. Fans will also be pleased to see the return of Dan Fogler as the lovable Muggle Jacob Kowalski. Director David Yates also returns to helm the seventh film in the Harry Potter series.

"Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secret" is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022, but Potter fans don't have to wait that long to get a taste of magical splendor; HBO Max will air a Harry Potter reunion special on New Year's Day, and both old and new wizard boy fans are sure to rejoice.
