Although not officially announced, there is basically zero chance that the iPhone 14 (and apparently also the lower-priced iPhone SE 3) will not be released in 2022

Once again, Apple's flagship devices will be the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, each in two They are expected to come in two size configurations. But what are the main differences between these two devices? Here is what we know so far.

Even before the iPhone 13 was released in September, the first iPhone 14 leak was made by John Prosser, a usually accurate leaker. To be precise, it was the iPhone 14 Pro, and Prosser revealed a phone with a titanium frame, a flat rear camera array and a front-facing pinhole camera. If this is correct, this would be the first time Apple has released a flagship device without a notch since the first design quirk appeared on the iPhone X in 2017.

However, the same is unlikely to be true for the standard iPhone 14, with leaker @PandaIsBald stating that it is "unlikely" that Apple will remove the notch entirely and simply reduce its size on the regular handset.7]

Early rumors, suggested that all iPhone 14 models could benefit from the same 120Hz display that debuted on the iPhone 13, but it now seems likely that Apple will keep the higher refresh rate as a premium feature on the iPhone 14 Pro. Apparently at least one iPhone 14 will have an LTPS display, which suggests that 60Hz will continue for another year.

Another big thing about the display is that 2022 will mark the end of the small, premium iPhone, and the mini's sales have been so poor that Apple apparently made a decision some time ago. Instead, both the regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will be available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch "Max" sizes, and the entire device appears to be comparable.

Since internal specs are usually quite similar between the regular iPhone and iPhone Pro models, we expect both handsets to use the Apple Bionic A16 chipset and have all the usual advantages it promises. This could be a 4nm chip, which would improve efficiency as well as performance.

As for storage, the iPhone 13 Pro will allow Apple fans to purchase devices with up to 1 TB of storage in 2021, and there is talk of doubling it further to 2 TB with the iPhone 14 Pro. However, this story should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is not yet clear whether 1TB devices have sold in large enough quantities to justify further expansion.

To USB-C or not to USB-C? That is the question. The European Union is considering making USB-C a standard, but the change won't take effect until 2024 at the earliest, so in some ways there isn't much of a rush, although Prosser's initial leak showed a Lightning port on the iPhone 14 Pro, iDropNews claims that this device will be the first to use USB-C.

Speaking of things still up in the air, @LeaksApplePro claims that Touch ID could return to the iPhone 14 Pro with a fingerprint reader under the screen. However, the leaker is at odds with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who sees under-screen fingerprint recognition being pushed back to late 2023.

The camera is one of the main areas where Apple has historically differentiated the regular and Pro iPhones, so it would be surprising if it is not the case again.

For now, however, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the iPhone 14 Pro could have a 48MP main camera sensor.

And while patents are far from a guarantee, it is nonetheless telling that Apple seems to have recently released a patent for a periscope-style zoom camera.
