Samsung in 2022: Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold4, etc.

As 2021 comes to a close, Samsung can consider it to have had a very good year. From cell phones, wearable devices, tablets, and TVs, Samsung maintained its position as the most reliable tech brand. But what will happen in 2022?

With a few notable exceptions, Samsung's plans for 2022 remain a mystery for now, unlike rival Apple, which has repeatedly revealed its 2022 plans. However, we can still speculate to some extent about what Samsung will offer in the New Year and what exciting developments it will share.

Read our preview of Samsung in 2022, including the most anticipated devices and rumors we've heard so far.

Let's start with the new lineup of Galaxy S flagship models, the Galaxy S22 is given based on the torrent of leaks we've seen over the past few months. The basic S22 and S22 Plus are expected to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Series Gen 1 chip and upgraded cameras. But the Galaxy S22 Ultra should undergo a more significant transformation into a Galaxy Note-like device with a built-in stylus and wider body.

On the cheaper end of the spectrum, the Galaxy S21 FE will finally arrive (rumored) in early 2022. This device is said to offer users a somewhat outdated flagship experience compared to the S22, but will suit a slightly different group of Samsung users by combining ample power and premium features with a lower asking price. 5 Major Expected in the Galaxy S21 FE We have compiled a list of upgrades to learn more.

We expect another pair of foldables from Samsung next year based on the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The clamshell Z Flip and book-shaped Z Fold already have a sizable lead over other foldable phones, but we expect Samsung to not keep quiet and make some welcome changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Such as a more effective version of this year's futuristic under-display camera on the Z Fold 3.

Beyond updates to these two existing models, there have also been rumors for some time of a cheaper, full-size foldable that would sit between the two current models, tentatively named the Galaxy Z Fold Lite, by making the folding experience more affordable, may help boost the adoption of foldable phones by smartphone users.

Samsung should also refresh its mid-range phones in the coming year, perhaps opting for the Galaxy Ax3 naming convention, like the newly announced Galaxy A13 5G. The current Galaxy A series includes the Galaxy A32, Galaxy A42, Galaxy A52, and the Europe-only Galaxy A72, so there could be some new phones to look forward to.

While these phones are not cutting-edge devices like the Galaxy S or Galaxy Z models, their focus on display, camera, and battery means you get Samsung's high-quality hardware at a great price. It also helps provide an alternative choice to other excellent and inexpensive Android phones like the Google Pixel 5a and OnePlus Nord 2.

And don't forget about Samsung's tablets, which may not be as ubiquitous as the iPad, but are still among the best Android tablets you can buy. Like cell phones, Samsung provides annual updates to its Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab S tablets, but there will be no major refresh after 2020, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7 FE remain the company's current tablets.

However, Galaxy Tab S8 rumors have been circulating, focusing specifically on the new top model, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, and its new notch design. This seems to be a major update for Samsung and should be its best attempt to dethrone the iPad Pro.

Samsung is still a newcomer in the field of true wireless earbuds, but somehow it already offers four different models. The latest model is the Galaxy Buds 2, and it is unlikely that entry-level earbuds will be available in 2022. The same is true of the Galaxy Buds Pro, which debuted earlier this year.

However, both the Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Live will be two years old in 2022. In other words, the time may be ripe for Samsung to update these mid-range "buds" to better compete with rivals like the newly released AirPods 3.

This has been a big year for Samsung smartwatches, thanks to the Galaxy Watch 4 series ditching Samsung's own Tizen OS in favor of a new version of Google's Wear OS, developed in conjunction with Google itself.

The next Galaxy Watch, presumably to be named Galaxy Watch 5, is not yet the subject of rumors. However, after being rumored for the Galaxy Watch 4, there is one feature that we expect to eventually appear: blood glucose tracking. Tracking blood glucose levels would be a great benefit for fitness-oriented users, and could also be a useful backup tool for diabetic users.

Samsung's Windows-powered Galaxy Book line and lightweight Samsung Chromebooks are effective laptops for productivity and entertainment, especially when used with other Samsung devices. windows 11 is about to take over from Windows 10 is about to take over from Windows 10, it will be interesting to see how Samsung takes advantage of the new features, but there are rumors of a new breed of laptops on the horizon.

Leaker IceUniverse claims that a 17-inch foldable Samsung laptop will be available early next year. We have yet to see a true foldable laptop available for purchase (the closest we've seen is a laptop with a 360-degree hinge), but given how Samsung has been in its element with foldable phones over the past few years, we look forward to seeing how this translates into a laptop.

Samsung has been staking out new technologies over the past few years, and some of these long-term plans will likely come to fruition in 2022. [The biggest of these is QD-OLED, an innovative take on the traditional OLED display that combines the pixel-by-pixel illumination of OLEDs with the color and brightness enhancing properties of quantum dots. Samsung has been developing this new display technology for many years and plans to begin initial production of the new panels in late 2020 and showcase the new technology at CES in January.

MicroLEDs will also make progress, but current models are super expensive, so there is still a long way to go before OLED competitors appear in affordable consumer devices. Samsung canceled plans for a small 70-inch 4K MicroLED TV this year. For now, the MicroLED TV is more of a proof of concept than a product anyone would want to buy.

For many shoppers, Samsung's biggest development for 2021 is Neo QLED, as seen in the Editor's Choice winning Samsung QN90A Neo QLED TV, which tops the list of best TVs. Neo QLED is a mini LED backlight and Samsung's superior quantum dot-enhanced displays combine to deliver truly superior picture quality and brightness, a major step forward from regular QLED displays. neo QLED will continue to evolve in 2022, but Samsung's lower-priced models will still be inferior in order to keep profit margins high. With dual LED backlighting, Samsung will reserve the better technology for its flagship 4K and 8K sets.

Finally, we can expect Samsung's 8K sets to become more affordable: the QN900A and QN800A 65-inch screen sizes launched at $4,999 and $3,499, respectively, but dropped to $2,699 during the holiday season; a similar A lineup is expected to appear, perhaps with a lower cost of entry for the least expensive models. (Whether there is 8K content that can be played on these high-resolution models is another question entirely.)
