Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 image just leaked - and ultra has a notch

Update: A new spec leak reveals more details about the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets will be available early next year, but it looks like we won't have to wait until then to see what they look like. Three recently leaked images give us a glimpse of the possible Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

The images of the devices are mostly consistent with previous iterations like the Galaxy Tab S8, but the Ultra has something that might upset users - an iPhone-like notch.

The image in question, brought to us via reputable leaker Evan Blass (who goes by @evleaks on Twitter), looks similar to an alleged leaked image we saw this past October: the Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus are Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus are not that different from the Galaxy However, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra stands out due to its notched display.

As previously reported, the Galaxy Tab S8 offers an 11-inch 120Hz LCD display, while the Plus model is expected to feature a 12.4-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel. The fingerprint sensor should be the same as on the Galaxy Tab S7, again located on the top edge power button, while the Ultra is expected to be larger, with a 14.6" OLED screen and the aforementioned notch.

It remains to be seen what the tablet's processing power will be; a YouTube channel called The Galox may have leaked Galaxy Tab S8 specifications back in January. If this information is true (and we encourage you to take it with a healthy dose of skepticism), the Galaxy Tab S8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and will offer 8GB of RAM in the standard model and 12GB in the Plus variant.

The Galaxy Tab S7 was powered by Qualcomm's relatively weak Snapdragon 865 Plus, so the newer Snapdragon 888 would provide a suitable upgrade to boost the Galaxy Tab S8's raw power. According to the same leak, storage options should range from 128GB up to 512GB.

While we cannot vouch for the leaked specs of the tablet, we believe Evan Blass' image is authentic based on his solid reputation. The fact that his image is nearly identical to a rendered image provided to 91mobiles by another reputable leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer, further supports the legitimacy of Blass's image.

It will be interesting to see what Galaxy Tab users make of the Ultra model's notched display, given how controversial this design choice has been on Apple phones and MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch laptops. Given how controversial this design choice has been on Apple phones and MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch laptops, we are sure that the Galaxy Tab community will have similar discussions.

CES 2022 is only a few weeks away, so expect official news about the Galaxy Tab S8 line to be announced then. For now, be sure to check out the Galaxy Tab S8 hub for all the news and leaks we've gathered about Samsung's upcoming tablet.
