TikTok has featured "miraculous" cleaning hacks for all kinds of chores. And while we may know more about the many powers of baking soda, it seems another item is taking over the cleaning game.

The humble dishwasher tablet is catching on for its "power" to remove grease stains from everything from ovens to baking trays. Perhaps not surprising, given that their purpose is to make dishes and utensils shine.

But if you spend a lot of time (and money) scrubbing greasy baking trays, this TikTok hack may be the answer: in the TikTok video in question, posted by Miss Scrubolic, she places a dishwasher tablet on a dirty baking tray and then washes the baking tray with the tablet. She places a dishwasher tablet on it and then adds hot water. Easy enough, right?

I decided to give it a try and see if I could deep clean and shine up my grease-stained baking tray.

1. following the instructions in the video, I first boiled water in a jug.

2. next, I placed the grease-stained baking tray in the sink and placed one of the dishwasher tablets in the center of it.

3. once the kettle was boiling, I carefully poured the hot water over the baking tray; although the TikTok video says to let it soak for 20 minutes, I actually left it in for 30 minutes to allow the tablet to dissolve (do its magic) in the hot water longer.

4. Once they were all dissolved, I scrubbed the tray with a brush and sponge to remove any grease and soap scum.

Conclusion: It was easy to remove the grease from the baking tray this way, but it still looked exactly the same as before. Perhaps I had high (or unrealistic) expectations about the shine afterwards.

In any case, the hack with the dishwasher tablets at least turned the arduous task of scrubbing off the grease into something that takes only a few seconds.

This particular cleaning hack didn't turn out to be a huge job for me, but this alternative dishwasher hack always works.

1. place a baking tray on a hot stove top and fill it with hot water.

2. add dishwasher tablets and bring to a boil for 10 minutes.

3. Leave to cool, then rinse the baking tray well in the sink.

This method seems to be much more effective at removing stubborn grease in no time.
