A prequel to "Yellowstone" that travels west and back in time to 1883. Paramount Plus has released the full "1883" trailer, which introduces Dutton on the western frontier.

John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, is the sixth generation patriarch overseeing the Dutton Ranch, the largest in the country. But he is merely continuing a legacy that began in 1883. Recounting the tale of the West's caustic frontier, the film follows the Duttons, James and Margaret, as they journey west across the Great Plains to the last bastion of untamed America. The family flees poverty and seeks a better future in Montana, the promised land of America.

Yellowstone has become one of the biggest shows on television. The Season 3 finale was the most-watched cable broadcast last year. Due to its growing popularity, Paramount Plus ordered two spinoffs, 1883 and 6666 (about the Four Six Ranch in Texas).

The full-length trailer for "1883" is filled with brutal action, including tons of high-speed horse chases, gunfights, and fistfights. John Dutton, played by Tim McGraw, has the look of a hard worker, but he may be outdone by Sam Elliott as the tough cowboy leading the caravan to Orgion.

The two-hour "Yellowstone" season four premiere featured a brief flashback of ranch founder John Dutton. Paramount Plus also released the first teaser trailer for "1883."

The trailer begins with a general view of the land, with a woman musing, "The road to the west is full of failure. The road to the west is full of failures."

We then get a glimpse of John and Margaret Dutton's grueling journey by covered wagon, showing that the road is indeed a difficult one. We also see gun battles, Native American warriors on horseback, and devastating fires.

The cast of "1883" is led by a trio of stars. Married country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as John and Margaret Dutton. Oscar nominee Sam Elliott plays Shea Brennan, a cowboy who guides the Duttons from Texas to Montana.

Newcomer Isabel May plays Elsa, John and Margaret Dutton's oldest daughter. Lamonica Garrett plays Thomas, a Pinkerton agent who works closely with Shea.

Billy Bob Thornton guest stars in an unknown episode as Marshal Jim Courtright. He can be seen briefly in the teaser trailer.
