Polestar3 clearly gives us our first glimpse at the new all-electric SUV

Polestar has grand ambitions for the future of its brand. It will also be the first Polestar vehicle to be produced in the United States.

This premium SUV is not scheduled to be officially launched until next year, but Paulstar has given us a glimpse of what is to come. The car may be covered in camouflage, but it gives us a hint of what to expect.

Not surprisingly, it is quite different from the Paulstar 2, a five-door sedan similar to the Tesla Model S and Model 3. The Polestar 3, on the other hand, is a premium SUV, likely to compete with the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace.

In other words, like all good SUVs, this car has a larger profile and a higher ride height than its predecessor. It also means that the rear is taller, which would be great for those who regularly need to stuff too much stuff in the trunk. However, it is unclear how much storage space is available.

Other features include a heavy wheelset and a glass roof, both of which are very common in electric SUVs.

The big news is that the Polestar 3 will be equipped with Volvo's semi-autonomous Highway Pilot driving system. This system, similar to General Motors' Super Cruise technology, allows the car to drive automatically without driver involvement on some highways. In other words, it is a Level 3 system and does not require constant driver attention.

This is accomplished through a combination of autonomous driving software and external sensors. The key to these sensors is a LiDAR module, which is discreetly stored in the windshield of compatible vehicles such as the Polestar 3 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.

Much is still unknown about the Polestar 3, including its price, range, speed, and other features. However, deliveries of the car are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023. And given Polestar's history as a racing and performance car company, one can fully expect the car to deliver impressive performance.

Whether the Polestar 2 will join the ranks of the best electric cars remains to be seen.
