The title of the Season 4 premiere is "Kobayashi Maru," which, as you probably remember, is the name of a typical Fleet Academy test of invincibility. It is also the name of a dangerous civilian ship that appears in this test, and the cadets try (unbeknownst to them) to save the unsalvageable ship. Since Star Trek: Discovery pre-dates Star Trek: The Original Series, I wonder if we will learn more about the origins of this mission:

The official description suggests that they might actually save the original Kobayashi Maru: "The Federation and After months spent reconnecting distant worlds, Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to assist the damaged space station."

What appears to be a routine mission reveals a terrifying new threat.

"Star Trek: Discovery" Season 4 will also explore the Covid 19 pandemic in its own unique way. Specifically, through the lens of a massive anomaly that is tearing apart the galaxy and destroying everything in its path. This will be a major challenge for Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), who has just found stability in his role commanding the crew of the USS Discovery.

"Star Trek: Discovery," one of the best Netflix shows internationally, ends this week and will not appear in the new season.
