Roku's YouTube TV app is broken — but it has nothing to do with their feud

YouTube TV subscribers are seeing red; according to a Roku forum user, a bug in YouTube TV is causing the app to freeze on Roku devices after a recent OS update.

This is unrelated to the ongoing bickering between Roku and YouTube TV that led to the latter's app being removed from the Roku Channel Store (and possibly the YouTube app as well).

The problem described by one Roku user is that "the YouTube TV app on both my Roku players keeps freezing after a few minutes." The problem appears to have started in the last few days and is affecting Roku devices and Roku TVs made by TCL and Hisense; it may be due to an update to the Roku OS, or it may be a problem on the YouTube side.

However, a quick scan of Twitter suggests that the bug is not limited to Roku; Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast may also be affected.

YouTube has acknowledged the bug and said it is working on a fix, at least for the Roku app; YouTube's official Twitter account said, "We are already aware of this issue and our team is currently working on a fix. We will let you know as soon as there is an update. If you see something different, please let us know."

For another subscriber complaining of the same issue with Chromecast With Google TV and Shield Pro, YouTube suggested reinstalling the app. This is a common fix for this type of issue.

However, due to the feud between Roku and YouTube TV, the app is no longer available for download from the Roku Store. Therefore, Roku users do not have the option of deleting and reinstalling YouTube TV; they must wait until YouTube releases a fix.
