Tom's Guide has discovered the latest strange and annoying HBO Max bug. Yes, HBO Max has been working pretty well for months, but the app has found another bug.

To see for yourself, update to the latest version of the HBO Max app (version 50.60.0) on your iPhone or iPad and try watching a show or movie with your AirPods connected. The show will appear, but you will see an annoying overlay graphic that says "streaming video to another display."

But this is not necessarily amusing or new. This past summer, HBO Max's Apple TV app was so buggy that versions of the app had to be rolled back. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens again. The service also briefly crashed one day that month. [r/iOS Four commenters on the Reddit thread also pointed out the bug.

An HBO Max support representative told Tom's Guide via Twitter DM, "You are not the only one experiencing this issue. We are aware of this issue and will be releasing a fix in the App Store as soon as possible. Until then, you can stream without headphones or on another device. This is not a solution for people on the go who don't want to be the annoying person blasting a show or movie on their device.

For now, we'll be watching HBO Max on our TVs and web browsers. That's probably how most of us will interact with the service, but those of us who were hoping to catch up on "Curve," "Insecure," and "Succession" on the go will probably be annoyed.

We have reached out to HBO Max for further comment. Hopefully this will be resolved by the time you want to watch "Succession" Season 3 Episode 6.
