OnePlus10Pro may launch early, but there's a catch

Update OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus 10 Pro will be announced in January, possibly at CES 2022.

Traditionally, OnePlus has announced a slightly more powerful "T" version of its flagship model around this time, but it has already been confirmed that the OnePlus 9T will not be announced. At least for those who were not impressed with the special edition OnePlus Nord 2 Pac-Man Edition the company just announced, the OnePlus 10 Pro may not be too far off.

This is according to Max Jambor, a reporter for the German website All About Samsung, who published an excerpt from what appears to be OnePlus' upcoming release schedule on Twitter. The table lists the OnePlus 10 Pro as a "January/February" product, which is a plus considering that the OnePlus 9 Pro was introduced in March of this year.

However, that earlier release date appears to be for China only, with the "global" version of the OnePlus 10 Pro listed as March/April, in line with what we would expect.

Perhaps the staggered release is a sign of the ongoing global chip shortage, and OnePlus thinks this is a way to keep up with demand. If so, it is interesting to note that China is considered a priority when competing against Samsung's Galaxy S22, rumored for release in early 2022, in the battle to determine the best Android phone.

Is it significant that the chart only mentions the OnePlus 10 Pro and not the not-for-sale OnePlus 10? Possibly, but if a non-Pro version of the device is planned for a different schedule, it would mean a change in OnePlus' strategy. The company has been releasing Pro and non-Pro versions of its devices on the same day since the OnePlus 7 Pro debuted in May 2019.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 898 chip with all the speed and efficiency improvements that Qualcomm is undoubtedly planning. Alongside the prominent exterior camera bump, which is expected to be significantly improved, the phone will reportedly feature a 120Hz, 6.7-inch OLED screen and a 5,000mAh battery.

The OnePlus 10 may be powered by a 125W ultra-fast charger, but it is doubtful how much faster it will actually be than the OnePlus 9 Pro.
