Spider-Man No Way Home trailer ・ Here's the biggest clue to the appearance of Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield

The Internet is ablaze with anticipation for "Spider-Man: No Way Home," as Sony released the trailer for the superhero film this week. This three-minute trailer has a lot to offer.

The international trailer includes several alternate and extended clips. One of them may have given the biggest hint yet that there will be multiple web-slingers in Spider-Man No Way Home.

Rumors have been circulating for months that Tobey Maguire, who played Spider-Man in the trilogy released between 2002 and 2007, and Andrew Garfield, who played the wall-crawler in two films between 2012 and 2014, would appear in "No Way Home" However, a brief shot that appears in the Brazilian cut of the trailer has further fueled online speculation.

The brief scene shows Spider-Man's classic villain, The Lizard, jumping from scaffolding at a construction site and getting punched in the air by an unseen enemy. Unless the scaled villain was hit by a particularly strong gust of wind, it seems likely that whoever is delivering the punch was not edited out of the trailer.

Given that the Lizard first appeared on screen in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, in which Garfield played Peter Parker, it is not a huge leap of logic to assume that he was punching out. It makes sense that Sony would edit Garfield's Spider-Man out of the trailer to create a surprise, but the studio has not covered its tracks particularly well.

Another scene in all versions of the trailer has also been the subject of speculation. It is the scene where MJ, played by Zendaya, falls from the aforementioned construction site and a hand in spandex reaches out to save her.

The plot thickens when we realize that the hand reaching out to save her is blue/red. Is this Maguire or Garfield coming to her rescue?

None of this is wild speculation. We already know that No Way Home is a film that fully explores the multiverse. The film centers on Doctor Strange's failed attempt to perform a spell that would make the entire world forget Spider-Man's secret identity. The spell fails and the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins to collide with another dimension.

The film will feature one of the greatest villains in Spider-Man's cinematic history. Already confirmed are Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus (from 2004's Spider-Man 2), Jamie Foxx as (slightly redesigned) Electro (from 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Thomas Haden Church again as Sandman (from 2007's "Spider-Man 3"), and, to the delight of the Internet, Willem Defoe will reprise his role as Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin from 2002's "Spider-Man."

With so many villains from the multiverse, it makes sense that another version of Spider-Man himself would make an appearance in the MCU. After all, it would be quite unfair that Tom Holland would have to face so many villains by himself.

Three Spider-Men teaming up on the big screen is no longer going to be a fanboy's dream come true. But thankfully Sony has left this aspect of "No Way Home" a mystery. Especially since there are already too many spoilers in the film's marketing.

Thankfully, it won't take long to find out if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be changing into their spidey suits. Tickets go on sale November 29, and Sony is calling it Spider-Man Day.
