Google has made it easier to install apps on Android TV.

As discovered by Reddit user u/avigi, it is now possible to install Android TV apps from your phone. Simply access the Google Play Store on your phone and select the device on which you want to install the app.

While it has been possible to remotely install apps on other devices while accessing Google Play with a desktop browser, this appears to be the first time this has been possible using a mobile app. However, as a commenter on Reddit pointed out, it does not appear to be possible to remotely push apps to other phones or tablets.

Also, u/kevjs1982 has posted a number of screenshots showing how the app page looks depending on where it is actually installed. It is clear that this system is almost identical to the way Google remotely installs Wear OS apps.

The mechanism by which Google Play shows which devices are compatible with an individual app is very straightforward. It also displays a checkbox or individual install button, depending on whether the app in question is already installed on the phone.

While this feature appears to be still in rollout and is not yet available to all, it does provide another option for how to add Android apps to a TV, whether it be one of the best Google TVs or a Chromecast with Google TV It gives us. At the very least, it allows you to install apps more efficiently than using the TV's remote control to control Google Play.
