Moon Knight was announced as part of a handful of MCU Phase 4 series, but unless you are a comic book enthusiast or a big Marvel fan, you are unlikely to know him well. So why did Marvel choose Moon Knight for its own series?

I don't know, but the character has a more quirky backstory and would be interesting to see translated into a TV show. And it's going to be a crazy series alongside the more understandable upcoming Marvel movies and shows.

These shows include Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, etc., all of which seem to be told more simply.

Given that Moon Knight is not at the forefront of popular culture, the series will likely need to spend a little time setting up its premise and exploring it in order to draw in fans. Marvel's most recognizable hero from the TV show so far is Daredevil, who first appeared in a Ben Affleck movie a few years ago. Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist were less well known, but they did get shows on Netflix. However, all four were eventually cancelled, so it remains to be seen how Moon Knight will air.

If Moon Knight is as unique as it looks, it will help Disney Plus maintain its position as one of the best streaming services. However, most viewers will be watching with little to no knowledge of characters like Batman, and not many details about the cast or the production of the series are available at this time. But we are gathering as much information as we know and will add more as it becomes available. For now, here is everything we know about Moon Knight.

For those who have never heard of Moon Knight or are unfamiliar with his antics, here is a brief description of Moon Knight. This character debuted in 1975. When not prancing around in his cape, he is known as Mark Spector or one of his many alter egos. Before turning into a superhero, he had a variety of occupations, including boxer, Marine, and CIA officer.

As every henchman eventually discovers, mercenary work does not always go as expected. Spector also comes to the same conclusion when he is betrayed on the job by his boss, Raoul Bushman. After a brutal beating and near death, Spector is given a second chance at life by the Egyptian moon god Conch.

Unfortunately, however, there were strings attached. Konsch wanted to take Specter into his body and make him act as his avatar on this earthly plane. The deal was made, and Spector returned to the United States, where he adopted a series of alter egos of his own, including millionaire Stephen Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. However, rather than being simple disguises, these personalities are more aspects of identity disorder, each with their own unique memories, skills, etc.

Moon Knight, being an avatar of an Egyptian god, has tapped into his powers over the years, but has not consistently retained them. He supplements his abilities with a variety of gadgets and gizmos. Specter's various identities and positions that aid his vigilante activities, coupled with his lack of superpowers, have generated comparisons to Batman.

Marvel has not given an exact release date for all future series, but has announced that Moon Knight will appear on Disney Plus in 2022.

At Disney Plus Day, we first heard of Oscar Isaac, who (unsurprisingly) seemed confused about what the hell was going on. Off camera, someone is saying, "The voice in your head, it's eating you up." You can watch it on Disney Plus.

Filming for Moon Knight is apparently still underway and kicked off in Budapest in April. There is no official trailer yet, but no word on when it will be released. The show is scheduled to be released in 2022, so it is unlikely that a trailer will be released before "Shang-Chi" or "Spider-Man: No Way Home".

Nevertheless, leaked photos taken on the set (you'll have to squint) show Ethan Hawke, who plays the villain on the show, dressed in a brown tweed ensemble.

This costume has not helped narrow things down, but rather has sparked speculation as to who Hawke might play. He reportedly carried a cane as part of this costume, but it is not pictured.

It is currently speculated that Hawke will play either Dracula, which would tie in nicely with the "Blade" reboot, or Betrand Crawley. The latter is not a villain in the comics, but an ally and informant of Betrand Crowley, Moon Knight's taxi-driving alter ego, but that does not mean that Marvel will hesitate to rearrange things for the series.

So far, it has been confirmed that Oscar Isaac will play the titular Moon Knight. Marvel put an end to months of rumors, posting the following photo in a tweet captioned ""WE ARE MOONKNIGHT" - Oscar Isaac"

. Ethan Hawke will play the villain of the story, but it is not clear at this stage who that will be. May Karamawi is also listed on the series' IMDB page, but it is not yet known which character she will play.

Jeremy Slater ("Umbrella Academy," "The Exorcist") will write and executive produce, with Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead sharing directing duties. Diab will reportedly handle the bulk of the directing duties, while the indie filmmakers will direct several episodes.
