Android 12 was just released for Google Pixels a few weeks ago, but Samsung is already rolling out the update for the Galaxy S21 family.One UI 4 brings the Android 12 goodness we've already talked about, but with a Samsung's paint is on; Galaxy S21 users have a lot to look forward to.

One UI 4 tones back some of the Material You design language that Google talked about when it announced Android 12, but you still get Color Palette theme options and privacy features, plus access to the Samsung ecosystem and gain access to tighter integration.

One UI 4 is a big visual update, so prepare to have things look different once your phone gets it. Widgets got some love too, allowing for deeper customization and more useful information. And Samsung Keyboard received an animated emoji mashup, allowing you to send two emoji at once, plus additional GIFs and stickers.

Samsung has carried over some of Android 12's privacy features, like alerting you when an app is accessing your camera or microphone. The privacy dashboard shows which apps have used your camera, microphone, and location permissions for how long, so you always know what apps are doing in the background.

One UI 4 has finished its beta phase and is currently in a stable build on the Galaxy S21; other Samsung phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy S20 series, will receive updates in the coming weeks. The Galaxy S21 FE will reportedly ship with One UI 4 and Android 12 pre-installed when it debuts in January 2022. To check for updates, head to Settings > Software Update. If the update is rolling out in your area, you should have a notification telling you that One UI 4 is waiting for you. If not, you can click Download and Install to manually check for and download the update.
