It's been 363 days since the PS5 was released, yet availability is still next to impossible. And that limited availability is about to be spread ever so slightly thinner now that wireless carrier Verizon is carrying the console both on its website and in a "handful of pilot stores."

Verizon spokesman Chris Cerico told CNET that the console will only be available in "very limited quantities," so this is not a game changer. Nevertheless, as of this writing, both the $400 All Digital version and the $499 regular version are out of stock.

In theory, you may have slightly better luck buying on Verizon. That's because online purchases require both a wireless account and active service. Given that Verizon is the largest wireless carrier in the country, this is not unusual, but at least it reduces the number of competitors a bit.

This restriction does not appear to apply to in-store purchases, but given that Serico does not specify which "handful" of stores will get the inventory, it's probably not worth showing up by accident.

The store will also sell accessories such as the Pulse 3D headset, DualSense controller, controller charging station, HD camera, and PS5 media remote control.

As the first anniversary of the console's launch approaches, one would expect PS5 inventory to become more freely available, but demand still far exceeds supply. As a result, some retailers, including GameStop and Best Buy, have implemented early access programs to give customers a better chance of getting their hands on the hardware.

Those who have yet to get their hands on a PS5 can take comfort in knowing that there are still very few must-play titles exclusively for the PS5; as the list of the PS5's best games shows, most of the top PS5 games are freely available on the PS4.
