The first look of OnePlus10Pro - this may be a strange new design

Update: The OnePlus 10 Pro will be OnePlus' next flagship and could arrive early next year.

A rendered image purportedly depicting the next OnePlus 10 Pro has been released, giving us a glimpse of what OnePlus' next flagship model will look like. As seen above, there is a triple camera and flash unit in a stove-like configuration.

Leaker OnLeaks worked with Zouton for these renderings, showing us the back of the phone from head-on and at an angle. The design is similar to the Galaxy S21, and the outline design of the camera hump is eerie. The stove design looks decidedly odd.

The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro launched in March, so the OnePlus 10 series is expected to launch at a similar time in 2022. So OnePlus will have a few months to finalize the design before production begins, but OnLeaks says once and for all that this rendering is based on a photo of a prototype model. He then shared photos of other prototypes OnePlus has worked on in the past, some of which appear to be very different from the final version.

If the renderings are legitimate, it looks like OnePlus is playing with dropping the fourth camera lens on the OnePlus 9 Pro. The 2MP monochrome sensor on that phone was completely useless, so it's not a shame to see it go. I would rather see more resources put into improving the existing camera hardware.

OnLeaks did not share possible specs, but we'd bet that the OnePlus 10 Pro (if that's what OnePlus will call it) will use the Snapdragon 898 system-on-chip and at least 12GB of RAM. $969 128GB/8GB OnePlus 9 Pro didn't materialize in the US before it was officially cancelled, so assuming the supply shortage doesn't improve, we can't expect to see multiple configurations. When will this chip shortage end?

OnePlus still has a partnership with Hasselblad, so expect more upgrades to the OnePlus 10 Pro's camera (and the addition of Hasselblad branding in the final product). The OnePlus 9 Pro is the best camera phone OnePlus has ever put out, but that was not a high hurdle to clear. Still, the 9 Pro did quite well in our camera tests, although it fell short of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the iPhone 13 series, and the Pixel 6 Pro.

It is likely to hit the market in 2022. Rumor has it that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S21 FE at CES in January and the Galaxy S22 at the beginning of February; if OnePlus keeps the same schedule next year, the OnePlus 10 will appear the following month in March.
