Samsung Galaxy S22 can get the fastest RAM ever on the phone

Samsung's Galaxy S22 could be a state-of-the-art phone on the inside if it employs the company's latest innovations in memory technology.

Samsung has announced the development of a new kind of RAM, LPDDR5X DRAM. If this is used in the Galaxy S22, Samsung will have a powerful phone.

This innovative new kind of memory is Low Power Double Data Rate 5X, or LPDDR5X for short. Most smartphones sold this year use the previous generation of LPDDR5, which is already quite fast. However, Samsung promises that LPDDR5X will be 1.3 times faster than LPDDR5 in data processing speed and at the same time consume 20% less power.

But smartphones may not be the only application. Samsung mentions 5G, metaverse, AI, servers, and automobiles as other potential uses for LPDDR5X RAM.

Samsung has stated that production of these RAM modules will begin by the end of the year with manufacturing partners. Therefore, LPDDR5X RAM may not be available in time for the Galaxy S22 launch scheduled for February 2022; by the time LPDDR5X becomes commercially available, it will be too late for the Galaxy S23 (or whatever Samsung calls it) the following year, or the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4-like another flagship in 2022, or we may have to wait until a non-Samsung phone.

In further Samsung news (via TechRadar), the company seems to be teasing the upcoming Exynos chipset through an Instagram game-themed event promo. the Galaxy S22 is named the Exynos 2200. chip has been widely rumored, but recent statements from leaked sources indicate that Samsung may in fact use the Snapdragon chip in Galaxy S22 models worldwide, not just in the U.S.

The Exynos 2200 appears to be the one already seems to be a powerful chip, according to leaked benchmarks. More exciting than raw computing power, however, is the possibility of an AMD GPU, potentially with ray tracing capabilities that could take mobile gaming to another level.

Samsung's Exynos event will be held on November 19, so expect to hear more details about the 2200 chip there; as for RAM, it will likely be several months before we hear of its first use in cell phones, even after its official announcement today.

The rumored Galaxy S22 release date is still a few months away, but there are already plenty of juicy leaks. The basic S22 and S22 Plus (possibly called the S22 Pro) will offer a basic but fully featured flagship experience in a new, more compact frame. According to leaked information, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will build on last year's model by adding a built-in stylus for the first time in the Galaxy S series, positioning this model as the successor to the abandoned Samsung Galaxy Note 21.

Another upgrade is that the Galaxy S22's wireless charging could get a boost by jumping from 15W to 25W.
