Nvidia GeForce RTX3080Ti Laptops Discover Early Benchmarks - Expect Killer Performance

While many of the best gaming laptops currently feature a mobile version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, there is new evidence that a laptop version of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti may be on the horizon.

A Geekbench listing discovered by WCCFtech seems to detail an HP Omen gaming laptop running a mobile GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Thus, a more powerful gaming laptop may be on the way soon.

As for the Geekbench listing, it provides some early insights into the specs and performance of the mobile GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Most notably, it has 16GB of video memory, likely GDDR6 running at 1,395MHz, and 58 compute units. [The latter number is particularly interesting because modern Nvidia GPUs tend to have 128 CUDA cores per compute unit, which means the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has a total of 7,424 CUDA cores. This is less than the desktop RTX 3080 Ti's 10,240, but a healthy jump over the laptop-grade RTX 3080's 6,144.

Based on various other predictions and what we can infer from the mobile version of the RTX 3080, the laptop version of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is expected to have a 256-bit memory interface rather than the larger 384-bit interface found on the desktop version.

.

So what about in terms of performance: the HP Omen laptop (with Intel Core i7-12700H and 32GB of RAM) had an OpenGL score of 127,392. This is higher than the 115,597 of the Lenovo Legion 7 with GeForce RTX 3080.

In terms of real-world performance, the mobile RTX 3080 Ti's performance is expected to track that of the desktop GeForce RTX 3080; laptops with the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti can be expected to run games in QHD and maximum settings at well over 60 frames per second, and games at 1080p can expect frame rates that can take advantage of the high refresh rate displays that are now common on gaming laptops.

It is worth keeping in mind that these early benchmarks are likely based on pre-release versions of the RTX 3080 Ti, so they could be higher once Nvidia and laptop manufacturers optimize their hardware and GPU drivers.

Next-generation gaming laptops tend to be announced at CES, which is held every January. Therefore, it would not be surprising if a gaming notebook with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is announced in January 2022.
