The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been on sale for less than three weeks, but early buyers who have pre-ordered are encountering a strange bug.

Earlier this week, we reported on problems with flickering screens and double punch holes appearing on the display. Then we heard that Android 12 was draining the batteries of Pixel devices, but it's not clear to what extent this affects older Pixel and newer Pixel 6 models. And now it appears that random dialing is another issue that owners will have to deal with.

In a Reddit thread discovered by Android Authority, users of the Google Pixel subreddit complain of annoyance with Google's latest flagship device. Users are finding that their devices are randomly calling their contacts at all hours of the day; disabling "Hey Google" seems to solve the problem. At the time of publication, Google has not addressed the issue; Tom's Guide has contacted Google about the issue and will update this article as soon as we hear back.

"I wake up at 7 am to the sound of a call being made. Confused, I looked at my phone to see who was calling me, and to my surprise, my phone called a friend I've never called before," said user Emergency_Passage281, the original author of the Reddit thread.

Another user asked the original poster to look at the Assistant's recordings because Google Assistant might have heard something while sleeping.Emergency_Passage281 looked at his history and found that Google Assistant selected a contact and used voice commands without any voice commands, and discovered that it was calling that contact without any voice commands. Also, the screen was off during this process.

Other users solved this problem by disabling Google Assistant. They did so and have not had this problem since. But of course, the hands-free feature is no longer available. While inconvenient, it's better than accidentally calling your ex.

Other users have similarly disabled the lock screen feature of Google Assistant.

Earlier this week, another user posted a similar issue on Google's Pixel support site, but at the time of publication, Google's customer service representatives had not replied to the thread.
